ADITI CARRYING MOMENTUM TO SPAIN

21 September 2016

“Germany was good so I’m coming in with some good momentum,” said the 18-year-old Olympian, from Bangalore. “I played consistently but I still could have saved a few shots every day, so I know that if I can do that here then I’ll have a chance. I proved to myself that I can play well in Germany. The course was kind of similar, hilly, like this one. This is my first time in Spain. This golf course is nice, it’s hilly but quite enjoyable and with the good weather, it’s going to be fun, so I’m looking forward to it.”

After six events played so far on the LET this year, excluding the Olympic golf competition in Rio de Janeiro, Ashok has earned €25,724.77 and is 43rd on the LET Order of Merit, from which the top 80 who have played in at least six events will qualify for next year’s tour.

She is third on the Rookie of the Year standings, behind Nuria Iturrios from Spain and Angel Yin of the United States, despite having missed the first two Australian events this year to complete her high school studies. Currently €54,004 behind Iturrios, who won the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco, Ashok could make up significant ground with a victory, worth €45,000, but added: “I’m trying not to think about it. I just try to give my best at every event. We’ll see what happens at the end of the year. That’s all I can do.”
