Three Spanish women will compete for the title in the Santander Golf Tour Match Play

- Marfá, Escobar, Fear, and Spiazzi advance to the semifinals after an intense day of qualifying rounds at Real Golf de Pedreña
- In addition to the trophy, the four semifinalists remain in contention for a direct spot in the 2025 Tenerife Women’s Open
Paz Marfá, Marina Escobar, Natasha Fear, and Marta Spiazzi are the four players who will compete tomorrow for the Santander Golf Tour Match Play title at Real Golf de Pedreña. The semifinals will be held starting at 8:15 a.m. and will be followed by the grand final and the match for third and fourth place, scheduled for 12:40 p.m. In addition to the trophy, the four semifinalists still have a chance to finish the tournament as leaders of the circuit ranking, a position that secures a direct ticket to the Tenerife Women’s Open 2025, which will be held from June 5 to 8 at Abama Golf.
Until this quartet of contenders was formed, the day saw an intense round of eliminations. The day began with the round of 16 matches, where Paz Marfá and María Villanueva stood out with convincing victories, both by 5&3, against Kimberley Beveridge and Katrina Gillum, respectively. Leticia Ras-Anderica (4&3 against Jae Bowers), Caterina Tatti (4&3 victory against Fátima González Carriles) and Italy’s Marta Spiazzi, who beat Sweden’s Anna Hedlund 5&3, also advanced comfortably. The victories of Marta Pérez, who beat Raquel Romero on the 18th, and Marina Escobar, who caused the big surprise of the day by beating the reigning champion, Nina Pegova, by a single hole, were closer. Natasha Fear advanced directly to the quarterfinals after Clara Moyano withdrew.
With the draw now decided, the quarterfinals began at midday with some closely contested matches and high-level golf. In the all-Spanish clash, Paz Marfá and María Villanueva faced each other in a match full of twists and turns. The Guipúzcoa native started off stronger, with birdies on holes 2 and 6 that gave her a two-stroke lead. However, two consecutive bogeys on holes 11 and 12 brought the match back to a tie. The key moment came on the 16th hole, where Marfá took advantage of a great third shot on the par 5 to leave herself a two-meter putt to secure the birdie. On the 17th, an out-of-bounds shot by Villanueva definitively tipped the match in favor of the Catalan, who won 2&1.
The Italian duel between Marta Spiazzi and Caterina Tatti was more one-sided. Spiazzi, who had already shown her strength in the morning, carded an error-free first round and was five up on the 9th hole. Although Tatti tried to close the gap, it was not enough to stop her compatriot, who ended up closing out the match on the 15th hole with a clear 4&3 victory.
The match between Natasha Fear and Leticia Ras-Anderica was much more evenly matched. The German started with three birdies in the first six holes and took a two-stroke lead, but Fear fought back and tied the match on the ninth hole. From there, the Javea native held her ground, regained the lead on the 10th and held on until the end despite pressure from a combative Ras-Anderica. On the 18th hole, a par was enough for Fear to take the victory by two points.
The last place in the semifinals went to Marina Escobar, who confirmed her great form with another victory, this time against Marta Pérez, accompanied by Manuel Elvira, a professional player on the DP World Tour. The Almeria native took the lead with birdies on holes 6, 9, and 12, and although Pérez reacted by cutting the lead on the 15th, Escobar finished the job on the 17th with a great second shot that allowed her to secure par and the victory by 2&1.
With three Spaniards among the four semifinalists and a spot up for grabs at the Tenerife Women’s Open, everything is set for a historic final day at Real Golf de Pedreña.
