Santander Golf Tour La Coruña: penultimate stop in the battle for the ranking
- The Netherlands’ Lauren Holmey arrives as the leader of the rankings ahead of Mexico’s Alejandra Llaneza in a red-hot classification
- The tournament, the eighth of the season, will bring together 23 players of seven nationalities from 29 to 30 October at the Galician course
The Santander Golf Tour enters its final stretch with the Santander Golf Tour La Coruña tournament on 29 and 30 October at the Real Club de Golf de La Coruña, where the excitement surrounding the top spot in the rankings promises an exciting battle between the best players on the circuit.
At the top of the rankings is Lauren Holmey of the Netherlands with 133,605 points, closely followed by Alejandra Llaneza of Mexico with 127,250. Both players are approaching the Galician event aware of what is at stake: the ranking title, a ticket to the final phase of the Ladies European Tour School and a direct place to compete in the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España presented by Oysho.
Holmey, who has already racked up two wins this season — at Empordà Golf and Club de Campo Laukariz — is excited about the final challenge: “I’m really looking forward to these two weeks. I love this course: it looks spectacular, with challenging, spacious greens that suit my game well. I hope to stay at the top of the rankings and finish the season as number one. It would be a dream to play in the Spanish Open, one of the best tournaments of the year,” said the Dutch player.
Holmey, who will be partnering Swiss player Vanessa Knecht next week in the Club Zaudín Golf Doubles Championship, also highlighted the role of the Santander Golf Tour as a platform for the development of women’s golf: “There is no other circuit in Europe that offers so many opportunities. The support from Banco Santander, the sport and the sponsors is incredible. The courses are of the highest standard and open to players from across the continent, which makes the Tour unique.”
For her part, Alejandra Llaneza, second in the rankings, faces the end of the season with confidence and motivation: “I have loved competing on the Santander Golf Tour; it has been great preparation for the LET School. The organisation has been excellent and the courses spectacular. I thought La Peñaza was the best course of the year and I’m really liking La Coruña too, it’s very strategic. I’m motivated to be so close to the lead and with the possibility of winning a place in the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España presented by Oysho,” said the Mexican.
Llaneza, who came close to victory last week in Zaragoza, also highlighted the international level of the circuit: ‘More and more foreign players are coming to compete here. In Mexico, many of my colleagues ask me about the Tour because they know it’s a great opportunity. It’s a circuit that is growing every year and making a difference in Europe.’
The Santander Golf Tour La Coruña will bring together 23 players of seven different nationalities in a setting that combines technical demands and tradition. With only two scoring tournaments remaining —La Coruña and Seville— in addition to the Santander Spanish Women’s Professional Championship in Cadiz, the outcome of the ranking promises to be one of the most intense in recent years.
