The Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España presented by Oysho 2025 will once again be held from 27th to 30th November at the Real Guadalhorce Golf Club (Málaga) following the huge success of the tournament in 2024. The tournament will bring together the 64 best players in the Order of Merit and 11 guests, consolidating Malaga as a showcase for the best European women’s golf and as a destination with sporting, media and economic returns.
For Ángel Gancedo Arjona, president of the Real Guadalhorce Golf Club, repeating as host is confirmation of a solid line of work: ‘Hosting this great tournament again is recognition of a fantastic job. In 2024, we showed that Guadalhorce has everything necessary to host a grand final: a demanding course, first-class facilities and a dedicated team.’ During this year, the club has undertaken improvements to the course and facilities, ‘working side by side with RFEG and European Tour technicians’ to fine-tune every detail with a view to November. ‘It was our trial by fire, like moving up to the top division of tournament organisation; we achieved an outstanding result and this year we are going for top marks.’
Gancedo believes that the key to an event of this magnitude lies in the team: ‘Is something fundamental. I am proud to preside over a club where our greatest virtue is our staff, who are always dedicated. We must not forget the team of volunteers who selflessly facilitate and help, nor the generosity of the members who lend their facilities for several days.’ In operational terms, the club prioritises ‘the condition of the course, the public’s enjoyment of the competition and excellence in the care of the players,’ in addition to coordination with referees and technical teams. ‘We are going to offer the best version of the entire club,’ he summarises.
The 2024 results confirm the scale of the Open. According to club data, the event attracted 10,750 spectators during the week, 86 accredited media outlets, 125 volunteers and more than 350 jobs linked to the tournament’s operation. In terms of broadcasting, the organisation produced 12 hours of live coverage with international distribution to more than 87 countries, reaching a potential audience of 143.9 million households and an estimated global audience of over 240 million. In economic terms, Real Guadalhorce quantified a direct impact of €623,700, and the president emphasised the effect on the city: ‘The tournament has generated an economic impact of around €40 million’ for the city of Málaga.
The 2024 edition also produced a high-impact story: Carlota Ciganda won her second Spanish Open at Guadalhorce, equalling Azahara Muñoz and Anne Van Dam in the tournament’s all-time list of winners. Malaga fans filled the course and also celebrated the brilliance of the young talent: Andrea Revuelta from Madrid finished fifth and was awarded the Celia Barquín Prize for best amateur. ‘Ciganda’s victory, the look on the fans’ faces, the joy of our staff, the dedication of our members… it was a great tournament,’ recalls Gancedo. ‘This year we are going to surpass ourselves.’
The president also highlights the impact on the destination: ‘The importance of the tournament lies not only in the competition, but also in its media and economic impact. It reinforces Malaga as a key destination for women’s golf, attracts professionals and fans, and positions Andalusia as the epicentre of elite sport.’ The internal response, he adds, ‘was unbeatable’ both from the employees, who were ‘100% committed’, and from the members, who were ‘aware of what it means to host a Spanish Open at our club’.
Looking at the short and medium term, the Real Guadalhorce Golf Club has set itself an ambitious goal: ‘We have put all our senses and efforts into improving ourselves and we are going to go for it. It is a great opportunity for the club, for Malaga and for Andalusia,’ says Gancedo. And it opens the door to new organisational heights: “We are ready to host any event on the national and international calendar. Real Guadalhorce Golf Club has established itself as one of the top courses on the Costa del Sol, and we will continue to work hard.”
The Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España presented by Oysho 2025 thus arrives with reinforced foundations: a host club that raises standards, enthusiastic fans and a season finale that combines top-level golf, global coverage and tangible benefits for the region. Málaga once again opens its doors to the best of European women’s golf.
