This morning, the fourth round of the Santander Golf Tour was presented in Ávila, specifically at Naturávila Golf, where 108 players from 29 different countries will gather this week. A spectacular mix of nationalities, with 14 Spanish players in the running and a local player eager to be crowned champion: Marta Muñoz Jiménez from Ávila. The tournament is part of the Santander Golf Tour and is also the first event of the LETAS circuit this season in Spain.

The event was attended by Mr Javier González Sánchez, Deputy for Culture, Heritage, Youth and Sport of the Ávila Provincial Council; Mr Luis de Cristo Rey Padró del Monte, Deputy for Sport and Naturávila; Mr Francisco Javier Pérez de la Huerta, Commercial Director of Santander Private Banking in Castile and León; Mr Fernando López-Enríquez, Manager of the Castile and León Golf Federation; Ms Marta Muñoz, professional player at Naturávila and member of the Santander Golf Tour; and Alicia Garrido, Director of the Santander Golf Tour.

Javier González Sánchez, Deputy for Culture, Heritage, Youth and Sport, explained that “this is a clear commitment to professional women’s sport. For the Provincial Council of Ávila, it is a great honour and a source of pride to be able to host an event of this magnitude for the second consecutive year. The participating players will become ambassadors for the Ávila brand, and when they return to their places of origin, they will surely remember the hospitality, humility, simplicity and affection of the people of this region”.

Regarding the conditions of the course, Luis de Cristo Rey Padró del Monte, Deputy for Sports and Naturávila, pointed out that “the course is better than ever. The Naturávila maintenance team, together with the green section of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, have managed to ensure that, despite this winter’s floods, the course looks its best. I recommend everyone to visit this course located on the outskirts of Ávila: a World Heritage City.”

Francisco Javier Pérez de la Huerta, Commercial Director of Santander Private Banking in Castile and León, emphasised that “the Santander Golf Tour is a firm commitment by Banco Santander to sport and professional women’s golf, and this year marks its tenth anniversary. For us, it is a wonderful opportunity to share a very special day with our customers in a unique setting such as Naturávila. Returning to this course says a lot about last year’s edition: everyone was delighted, and this year is sure to be even better.

Fernando López-Enríquez, manager of the Castile and León Golf Federation, highlighted the impact of the tournament on the region: “The Santander Golf Tour is a benchmark for women’s golf in Spain and generates a lot of interest among the local public, especially women, which helps to promote the sport among the younger generations. We hope that Marta Muñoz, as a player from Castile and León, will put on a great show and claim victory on Saturday.”

Marta Muñoz, a professional player from Naturávila and a regular on the Santander Golf Tour, commented: ‘It is an honour that this event can be held again in Naturávila. The course is in optimal condition, so I congratulate the whole team. I hope that many spectators will come over the next few days and, personally, I would like to compete for the victory and be able to return to Ávila all the affection I receive.’

Alicia Garrido, director of the Santander Golf Tour, highlighted ‘the support of all the sponsors, which grows year after year so that professional golfers have more and more opportunities to showcase their talent.’ She also thanked ‘the efforts of the club team, which, in collaboration with the Green Section of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, has once again ensured that the Naturávila course looks its best.’

The fourth tournament of the season on the Santander Golf Tour will be held over three days, from Thursday 29 to Saturday 31 May. This tournament also belongs to the LET Access Series (LETAS), a European satellite circuit that awards six passes to the Ladies European Tour for next season.

About Naturávila Golf el Fresnillo

Opened in 1999, three kilometres from the walled city of Ávila, the Naturávila sports complex offers a wide range of services. In addition to the 18-hole golf course, there is a shooting range, horse riding, a swimming pool, paddle tennis and tennis courts, a 7-a-side football pitch and a wide range of catering options, including three hotels.

The golf course, located on the “El Vaquerizo” estate, is surrounded by lush trees and has numerous lakes that make the course difficult. With wide fairways and practically flat throughout, the length is one of the obstacles that makes this course a great challenge for all types of players.

About the LET Access Series

The LET Access Series (LETAS) is the official development circuit of the Ladies European Tour. With nineteen tournaments this season – across Europe and Morocco – LETAS offers golfers, both professionals and elite amateurs, the opportunity to compete at a high level, gain experience and earn valuable points for the Order of Merit and world ranking. The top six players in the LETAS ranking at the end of the year are guaranteed a full Ladies European Tour card for the following season.
