Naturávila crowns Alejandra Llaneza after a spectacular finish in the Santander Golf Tour LETAS

- The Mexican wins a thrilling playoff against Dutch player Lauren Holmey and Australian Justice Bosio after recording one of the best rounds ever played at Naturávila Golf
- Paz Marfà, in eighth place, was the best Spanish player in a week marked by the enthusiasm of the local crowd and their unconditional support for local player Marta Muñoz
Mexican Alejandra Llaneza won the Santander Golf Tour LETAS at Naturávila Golf in a final day that will go down in history. On her 37th birthday, the Olympic player achieved her first professional victory since 2019, signing an extraordinary round of 64 strokes (-9 in total) to tie for the lead with Dutch player Lauren Holmey and Australian Justice Bosio. The victory was decided in an exciting playoff on the 18th hole, where Llaneza sank a five-metre uphill putt that sparked an ovation from the Ávila crowd.
Llaneza started the day at -1 overall, six strokes behind the leader. Far from giving up, she launched into the day with two birdies on the first nine holes, before unleashing a sensational display on the back nine: six birdies, including three in a row between the 14th and 16th, plus another on the 18th, putting her at -9 overall. Her round is now one of the best ever recorded at Naturávila, surpassed only by Germany’s Helen Briem’s -10 in 2024.
Lauren Holmey, this year’s winner at Empordà Golf, also had a great round of 67 (-4) with an almost perfect first round (four birdies on the front nine) and a crucial birdie on the 15th that put her in sole possession of the lead. However, a mistake on her second shot on the 18th cost her dearly: she left herself with a difficult approach and missed the par putt, opening the door to a playoff. Justice Bosio, who led for the first two days, had a more erratic day from the tee, but her birdie on the 17th and par on the 18th allowed her to join the playoff.
In a playoff between three players from three different continents, all of them teed off well, but Llaneza was the only one who had a clear putt. She didn’t waste the opportunity and sank the winning shot, sealing a victory full of symbolism and emotion. “It’s been an unforgettable day, I’m very excited. It’s true that I went out to play without pressure, focused on each shot and very calm, considering that I didn’t expect to be where I am now, not even at the beginning of the week, or even this morning,” Llaneza said after receiving the trophy.
When asked how she managed the long wait before the tiebreaker, she explained: “It was a long wait, but I took it in stride. I went to the locker room for a while to calm down, concentrate, meditate a little, and prepare myself for what was to come. In the end, seeing the result, I think it was an advantage to have some time to clear my head and prepare myself as best I could. It was also interesting because I made exactly the same putt I had on the 18th in regulation, which gave me even more confidence.”
As for the Spanish representation, Paz Marfà was the highest ranked, finishing in eighth place with a total of -4 after a solid week. Marina Escobar and Amaia Latorre also shone, both with -2, while María Parra finished even par and María Herráez with +2 after failing to repeat her great performance on Friday. Marta Muñoz, a local player, finished with +1, leaving an excellent impression with her fighting spirit and the great support of the Ávila crowd, who cheered her on throughout the week and showed that golf in Ávila is experienced in a different way.
The next event on the circuit will take place at Golf Santander, with the traditional Pro-Am Legends tournament on June 24 and 25, where legends of professional women’s golf will once again share the course with some of the players from the Santander Golf Tour.
