Lauren Walsh maintains the lead at the Tenerife Women’s Open with Marta Martín hot on her heels

- The Irish player leads the Tenerife Women’s Open with a total of -9 after another great round on the demanding Abama Golf course
- Marta Martín from Madrid is in third place with -5 and will be looking for her second victory on the Ladies European Tour
The Tenerife Women’s Open 2025 saw its second day of competition with Lauren Walsh reaffirming her lead in the tournament after carding a round of 68 (-4) for a total of -9, in another display of control and solidity on the challenging Abama Golf course. The Irishwoman, who had already shone on Thursday with a flawless card, once again made it clear that she is a strong contender for the title in Tenerife.
The day didn’t start well for Walsh, with a bogey on the first hole, but she reacted immediately. She strung together birdies on the 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 6th to get back on track. In the second round, she scored consecutive birdies on the 10th and 11th, although the course struck back with two bogeys on the 13th and 14th. However, Walsh responded again with a final birdie on the 17th hole to close out a round that allows her to head into the weekend as the sole leader. At the end of the day, she was very satisfied with her game: “It was a great day. I started out a little nervous, but then I quickly got into a rhythm,“ said the Irishwoman. ”I didn’t make as many putts as on the first day, but my long game was solid. This course requires you to be in the right area of the green, and that’s something I’ve worked on very well with my coach Shane, who knows Abama perfectly. He has helped me a lot this week to read the course and stay calm in every situation.”
Walsh thus starts with a two-stroke lead over Singapore’s Shannon Tan, who was the player of the day with a round of 66 (-6). Four birdies on the last five holes catapulted the 2024 Magical Kenya Ladies Open champion into second place with a total of -7.
In third place, a group of eight players with -5, including Madrid’s Marta Martín, who once again put in an excellent performance with a round of 69 strokes (-3). Playing with patience, discipline, and great accuracy with the putter (which she describes as her lucky club), she scored birdies on the 4th, 10th, 14th, and 17th, with a single bogey on the 16th. “I approached the course the same way I did yesterday, with a clear and firm plan. That was the key,” she explained. “I like the greens, they’re tricky, but I feel comfortable reading them. I like to putt and I think that gives me an advantage.” Regarding the atmosphere, Marta was clear: “I’m lucky to have my family here. It’s not easy for them to get around the course, but they do it with all their love. They give me extra energy.”
The Madrid native, who made her comeback this week after neck problems, was also very grateful to the circuit and the tournaments held in Spain: “We have three events at home this year, all with large prize money. That says a lot about the country’s commitment to women’s golf. We are very grateful.”
Spanish results: six players make the cut
In addition to Marta Martín (-5), five other Spanish players made the cut, which was set at +3. Ana Peláez and Blanca Fernández, with rounds of -1 and par respectively, are in a good position to perform well over the weekend. Luna Sobrón (+1), Clara Moyano (+2), and Amaia Latorre (+3) will also compete in the last two rounds.

Madrid native Clara Moyano earned thunderous applause with a spectacular hole-in-one on the par-3 12th hole, the second of the tournament after Mimi Rhodes’ hole-in-one on the first day. Moyano finished the day at par for the course and +2 overall, securing a spot among the top 61 players who will be competing at Abama Golf this weekend.
Mireia Prat bids farewell to the season
Mireia Prat, with seven titles on the Santander Golf Tour and two more on the LET Access Series, ended her season in Tenerife on an emotional note. The Catalan, who is seven months pregnant, did not make the cut but leaves happy: “It has been special to say goodbye here. Now it’s time to prepare for the most important thing.”
