Lauren Holmey’s epic comeback to win the Santander Golf Tour Vizcaya

- Second victory of the year for the Dutch rider on a frenetic day. Amaia Latorre from Álava came second, while Clara Moyano and Alejandra Llaneza tied for third place
- Holmey consolidates her lead in the rankings and is more than 26,000 points ahead of Mexico’s Llaneza
The Santander Golf Tour Vizcaya crowned Lauren Holmey at the Laukariz Country Club at the end of an exciting final day. The Dutch player started third, five strokes behind María Herráez, who was leading after Wednesday’s -4, but she turned the script around with a flawless first round on a demanding course and sealed the victory with a final card at par for the course, her second win of the season after her success at Empordà Golf in the first event of the season.
The outcome came quickly. On the par-5 1st, Herráez went out of bounds from the tee and carded a triple bogey, while Holmey and Amaia Latorre started with birdies to tighten up the leaderboard. The blow to her morale was accentuated on the 3rd, where the Madrid native carded another triple bogey after a poor tee shot and an approach that hit a tree before triputting and relinquishing the lead. Alongside her, Holmey, recently recovered from a wrist injury, maintained a very high pace: despite a bogey on the 4th, she responded immediately with birdies on the 5th and 7th and closed the first nine holes two under par (-1 overall), opening up a gap over her playing partners. Latorre, meanwhile, after a birdie on the 1st, had bogeys on the 3rd and 4th and a double bogey on the 8th, losing ground to the Dutch player and seeing her chances of securing her third victory of the year slip away.
The second round confirmed the leader’s control of the rankings: a birdie on the 10th to extend her lead and, despite a bogey on the 14th in a stretch affected by the wind, she finished with four pars to secure victory at par. Latorre failed to find the necessary streak and finished second at +4, after bogeys on the 13th, 16th and 18th. In third place, tied at +5, were Clara Moyano —who had a great reaction on the back nine with an eagle on the 15th to sign for par for the day— and Alejandra Llaneza, who closed the final round at +1.
The top 10 was completed by Marina Escobar (+6, fifth place) and María Parra and María Herráez (+7, joint sixth) after a very difficult day overall for the Madrid native. Among the standout performances, amateur Amanda Revuelta finished in a commendable eighth place, while local player Carmen Sainz—with her brother Javier Sainz as her caddie—finished fifteenth in a special week for Laukariz and its 50th anniversary. The event also had a special touch off the course: Nuria Iturrioz accompanied Marina Escobar as her caddie, and María Hernández from Pamplona also acted as a caddie during the tournament, bringing the Ladies European Tour stars closer to the public.
The atmosphere accompanied the competition from the outset, with large crowds at key points along the course and a gala-like finish on the 18th. The sporting proposal of the Laukariz Country Club — a long and technical course that rewards distance management and patience — accentuated the comeback narrative and offered an outcome in keeping with the demands of the circuit.
With this victory, Lauren Holmey strengthens her lead in the Santander Golf Tour 2025 rankings: she has 133,605 points, more than 26,000 ahead of Alejandra Llaneza, and faces the final block of the season with confidence. The circuit will continue in the coming weeks with stops at Real Club de Golf La Peñaza (23–24 October) and Real Club de Golf de La Coruña (29–30 October), before the Doubles Championship at Club Zaudín (5–6 November) and the Santander Spanish Women’s Professional Championship at La Hacienda Links Golf Resort (19–21 November). It is a packed schedule that keeps the battle for the number one spot alive and, after the premiere in Vizcaya, leaves one thing certain: Holmey has made a statement in Laukariz.
