Lauren Holmey, the new queen of the Santander Golf Tour: four wins and a historic title
- The Dutch player makes history with four wins — the first to achieve this in a single season — and establishes herself as the best player on the circuit
- Alejandra Llaneza and Amaia Latorre complete the podium in a season marked by Holmey’s undisputed dominance
Dutch player Lauren Holmey has put the finishing touch to an unforgettable season on the Santander Golf Tour, winning the 2025 ranking after dominating the circuit from start to finish. Since her victory in the Birdie Challenge at Empordà Golf, the first event of the season, the young golfer set an unstoppable pace that also led her to triumph at the Santander Golf Tour Vizcaya (Club de Campo Laukariz), the Santander Golf Tour La Coruña (Real Club de Golf de La Coruña) and the Santander Golf Tour Seville, where she won alongside Switzerland’s Vanessa Knecht in the Doubles Championship held at Club Zaudín Golf.
Holmey, who has only played in five tournaments this season, only missed out on victory at the Santander Golf Tour LETAS Ávila at Naturávila Golf, where she lost in the final playoff to Mexico’s Alejandra Llaneza, who also finished second in the overall circuit standings. With her four wins, the Dutch player becomes the first golfer in the history of the Santander Golf Tour to achieve such a record in a single season, thus consolidating her name among the great figures of European women’s golf.
The title was not decided until the last event on the calendar, the Santander Golf Tour Seville, where Holmey arrived with a clear advantage. Only a very specific combination — a victory for Llaneza combined with a tenth place or worse for the Dutch player — could take the lead away from her. But far from speculating, Holmey dominated again from the start, securing not only first place in the ranking, but also a place in the history of the circuit.
The podium is completed by Amaia Latorre from Álava, who won the Santander Golf Tour Valencia, the second event of the year held at the Parador de El Saler Golf Club, thus adding a third victory to her record on the circuit and confirming her consistency among the national elite.
Holmey, aged just 22, continues to consolidate a career with a bright future ahead of her. Her first professional victory came in 2022, while still an amateur, at the Flumserberg Ladies Open (Switzerland), part of the LET Access Series, and in 2023 she competed with a full card on the Ladies European Tour. Her game stands out for its consistency and maturity, with putting being one of her most lethal weapons.
When asked about her feelings after making history on the circuit, she said: ‘It’s a huge joy to be able to say that I’m the champion of the ranking. I didn’t know I was the first to achieve four victories; I’m very proud.’ As for her consistency on the circuit, she said, ‘I’ve had a special connection with Spain this year, that’s for sure. I love competing on the Santander Golf Tour, we play on the best courses and there’s no better preparation for the European circuit than this. Whenever I can, I’ll come back to compete here.’
Thanks to her position as champion of the ranking, Lauren Holmey receives a double reward: direct access to the final phase of the Ladies European Tour qualifying school, to be held from 16 to 20 December at Al Maaden Golf Marrakech (Morocco), and an invitation to compete in the 2025 Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España presented by Oysho, one of the most prestigious tournaments on the European calendar, which will take place from 27 to 30 November at the Real Guadalhorce Club de Golf.
The 2025 Santander Golf Tour season will officially conclude with the Santander Spanish Women’s Professional Championship, held from 19 to 21 November at the Heathland course at La Hacienda Links Golf Resort, putting the finishing touch to a season full of excitement, records and unforgettable stories.
