Costa del Sol Tourism is promoting the golf sector with the 4th Schuster & Friends Tournament, which will be held for the first time in the destination in June 2026

Next June, the Costa del Sol will host the 4th Schuster & Friends Golf Tournament, an initiative that combines sports, friendship, and a passion for the game in an exclusive and relaxed atmosphere. The event will be held for the first time in the region on June 5 and 6, 2026, and will bring together players, guests, and celebrities from the worlds of sports and media.

During the event, Cristóbal Ortega, the deputy for Sports and vice president of the Málaga Provincial Council, highlighted the value of this initiative for the destination and its ability to promote golf-related offerings. “It is an honor to be here today for such a magnificent initiative as the Schuster & Friends Golf Tournament: an event that combines sports, friendship, and a passion for golf in an exclusive and relaxed atmosphere,” he noted.

Ortega expressed special thanks to the event’s organizers for choosing the Costa del Sol as the venue for this sporting event. “Let me begin by extending special thanks to Bernd Schuster and his wife Elena Blasco for placing their trust in our destination to host this special tournament for the first time on the Costa del Sol,” he said.

The deputy also acknowledged the collaboration of the entities involved in organizing the tournament. In this regard, he thanked the city councils of Marbella and Mijas for their participation, as well as the event venues, Santa Clara Golf and La Zambra Resort Mijas, in addition to the organizing company, Deporte&Business.

The tournament will feature 80 players and approximately 150 guests. The competition will take place at the Santa Clara Golf course in Marbella, while guests will stay at La Zambra Resort in Mijas.
Designed to bring together players, guests, and celebrities from the worlds of sports and media, the tournament is known for its spirit of camaraderie. The competition is marked by enthusiasm and respect, in an environment that seeks to foster camaraderie and the shared enjoyment of golf.

Beyond the game, Schuster & Friends also serves as a space to strengthen relationships and forge new bonds among participants. Social activities, prizes, and experiences will accompany the sporting event, and on the final day, a charity auction will be held to benefit local organizations.

For the Costa del Sol, hosting this type of initiative helps strengthen the destination’s position in the golf tourism segment. “It is a true honor for us to participate in projects like this, which undoubtedly help establish us as a leading tourist destination in this segment as well,” said Ortega.

The vice president of the Provincial Council also highlighted the strategic commitment the destination has maintained for years to golf as a tourism product. “Here on the Costa del Sol, we have been committed to golf as a tourism product for many years; it is a key factor in reducing seasonality, since the peak season for this sport does not coincide with that of general tourism,” he explained.

Ortega also highlighted the growth potential of this segment and its impact on the destination’s economy. “Golf still has significant growth potential and brings substantial benefits to the Costa del Sol, attracting high-spending clients who generate wealth and stimulate other complementary sectors,” he noted.

For his part, Francisco Jerez, the Mijas City Councilor for Tourism, stated that “events like this are a great opportunity to promote tourism, setting us apart from other tourist areas and positioning us as one of the leading destinations in this segment compared to our competitors.”

Meanwhile, Lisandro Vieytes, the Sports Councilor for the City of Marbella, noted that it is an “honor to host an event like this that aligns with the Marbella brand and the values of solidarity, sports, and the coming together of celebrities, which will once again make Marbella, Mijas, and ultimately the Costa del Sol the epicenter of golf.”

In closing, Bernd Schuster thanked the institutions and the Costa del Sol for their support in making this golf weekend possible, which “will surely be a great success, especially since it is being held in a destination like yours,” he said.
