The Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España presented by Oysho confirms the participation of Carlota Ciganda and Azahara Muñoz in the 2025 edition, which will take place from 27th to 30th November at the Real Guadalhorce Golf Club. Both players have won the tournament twice—along with Dutch player Anne Van Dam—and are preparing for a historic face-off to become the first three-time champion of the Open.

Azahara Muñoz, from San Pedro del Mar, won her first title in 2016 (Aloha Golf) and retained it in 2017 (R.C.G. Guadalmina), becoming the only player to do so consecutively. She was also runner-up in 2018. A three-time Solheim Cup winner (2011, 2013 and 2019), four-time member of the European team, with five wins on the Ladies European Tour (LET), one on the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and three Olympic appearances (Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020, Paris 2024), she returns home with ambition: ‘I was really looking forward to competing in Spain again, especially in Malaga. There’s nothing like competing in front of your own people, and although I couldn’t be there last year, I’m coming back with renewed energy to fight for everything.’

Carlota Ciganda, meanwhile, arrives as defending champion after her victory in 2024 at Guadalhorce, where she won her second Open after the 2021 edition (Los Naranjos Golf Club). With eight LET victories, three LPGA victories (the most recent being the LPGA’s Meijer Classic this June), three Olympic Games and seven Solheim Cups — champion in 2013, 2019, 2021 and 2023 (Finca Cortesín) — the Navarrese player returns to the stage where she thrilled the Malaga crowd: ‘I am proud to be able to compete at home for another year. Last year’s victory at Guadalhorce was unforgettable, and it would certainly be a dream to become the first three-time Open champion.’

Beyond the stellar duel, the Open — the grand finale of the Ladies European Tour — will bring together a top-level field. Highlights include Mimi Rhodes (three victories in 2025), the Czech Sára Kousková (two individual titles and two team titles) and the Canadian Anna Huang (16 years old, two victories), along with recent champions such as Nuria Iturrioz from Mallorca (Aramco Houston Championship), Cara Gainer, Cassandra Alexander, Darcey Harry, Alice Hewson and Laura Fuenfstueck. Rounding out the roster is a solid Spanish contingent with Marta Martín, Luna Sobrón, Blanca Fernández and local star Ana Peláez, cheered on by the Malaga fans.

The Real Guadalhorce Golf Club will once again host the event following the success of 2024, when the demanding course and thrilling finale saw Ciganda crowned in a memorable finish. With the spotlight on Andalusia and the Costa del Sol, the week promises to be a great sporting spectacle and a major international showcase for the destination. The sporting narrative is set: Ciganda vs Muñoz, two icons of Spanish golf battling it out to make history in Malaga.
