Amaia Latorre lays down the law at the Parador de El Saler Golf Course

  • The Alava native, with a final score of three under par, dominated from start to finish, securing her third victory on the Santander Golf Tour
  • Marina Escobar and Mireia Prat, who finished second and third respectively, completed the podium

Amaia Latorre has convincingly won the second round of the Santander Golf Tour 2025, held this week at the iconic Parador de El Saler Golf Course. The player from Álava, who lives in Castellón, started as the leader after a brilliant first day and gave her rivals no chance in the final round, signing a round of 71 strokes for a total of -3, being the only one to finish the tournament under par.

The day started in the best possible way for Latorre, who shared the spotlight with María Herráez from Madrid and the young amateur Clara Uso, a native of Castellón who was making her professional tournament debut at just 15 years of age. On the first hole, the Alava native showed her hand with a spectacular birdie, while Herráez and Uso started with bogeys. From there, Latorre strung together three consecutive pars and another birdie on the 5th hole, where she once again demonstrated her power with the driver, as she had done on the first day. At that point, her lead over the second-placed player was seven strokes.

A minor setback on the 6th hole did not slow her down. The bogey on that hole was followed by another birdie on the 8th and another bogey on the 9th, closing out a first round of 35 strokes, the only one under par for the day. In the second half of the round, Latorre opted for a more conservative game, prioritising safety from the tee with shorter woods and stringing together five consecutive pars from 10th to 14th.

The masterstroke came on the 15th hole. After sending the ball to a tricky area to the left of the green, she executed a sensational approach shot from the bushes and sank her putt for birdie, extending her lead and sealing the tournament. Despite a bogey on the 17th, the Alava native carded the best round of the day and sealed an indisputable victory, eight strokes ahead of her closest rival.

At the end of the day, she commented: “I’m delighted. The truth is that I’ve played two very complete days of golf. They have been very different days. On the first day, I was very solid with my drive and weaker with my irons. Today, however, I played a little more conservatively from the tee, and I think that helped me win.‘ On a more personal note, she insisted that ’it’s very special to win here. It’s my second home, and both the support of the local crowd and my people in Álava have been fundamental.”

With this triumph, Latorre adds her third victory on the Santander Golf Tour, after the titles won in 2023 at Sherry Golf (in the doubles championship alongside Nuria Iturrioz) and the R.C.G. de La Coruña. This victory is not only her first title of the year, but also an important step forward in the fight for the circuit ranking.

Marina Escobar from Andalusia was the only player able to keep up the pace for most of the day. She teed off in the penultimate match of the day and stayed close to the lead in the first round, finally finishing with +5 in second place, her best result to date on the circuit. The podium was completed by Mireia Prat from Catalonia, who handed in a card of +7.

Special mention should be made of the performance of Clara Uso, who played her first professional tournament in the star match and made a good impression with her competitive maturity. In addition, the two invitations at stake for the Super Bock Ladies Open, which will be held from 6 to 8 May at Vidago Golf in Portugal, went to María Villanueva from Guipúzcoa and Marta Spiazzi from Italy.

After this second event of the season, the circuit will move to northern Spain for the Santander Golf Tour Match-Play, which will take place from 14 to 16 May at the Real Golf de Pedreña in Cantabria. There, the player who leads the ranking after three events will be decided, a position that grants a coveted invitation to the Tenerife Women’s Open, a Ladies European Tour event to be held from 5 to 8 June at Abama Golf.
