108 players from 28 countries gather at Naturávila Golf for the LETAS Santander Golf Tour

- The Naturávila public course is looking for a successor to Germany’s Helen Briem, who won on this same course last year
- mong the favourites are local player Marta Muñoz and Amaia Latorre from Álava, who is coming on strong after two top-10 finishes in the LETAS and good performances in the European circuit tournaments played to date
From tomorrow, Thursday, at 8:30 a.m. until Saturday at 2:30 p.m., Naturávila Golf will be the venue for the first LETAS tournament in Spain: the Santander Golf Tour Ávila. 108 players, including 14 Spaniards, will delight all the fans who come to El Fresnillo to enjoy the best live golf.
Among the favourites to win the trophy on Saturday is Marta Muñoz, a local player who knows Naturávila like the back of her hand and hopes to win the title at home after her strong performance last year. The Ávila native is ready and excited to return to the course where she grew up as a professional golfer, and hopes to be crowned the new winner in 2025.
Another player to watch is Amaia Latorre from Álava, who returns with enthusiasm to continue achieving good results this season. ‘I’m super excited to play in Ávila again this year and compete at home,’ said Latorre. “I want to continue the streak, but I feel super calm. This week, I just want to try to play my best, enjoy the friendships I have here, the atmosphere and the good weather.”
Latorre had an unusual path to professional golf. After her parents introduced her to golf at the age of three, she combined golf with her other passion, football. This was her priority until, at the insistence of coaches and friends, and following the Santander Golf Tour being held in Larrabea, where she received an invitation to play, golf began to take on an increasingly important role in her life.
Latorre finished in the top 50 at the Lalla Aicha 2024 Qualifying School and, so far this season, she has combined her schedule with appearances on the Ladies European Tour, LETAS and Santander Golf Tour.
Ávila will also feature high-potential players such as Marina Escobar: ‘This season I have been consistent, I feel I can afford to be a little more aggressive in my strategy in order to have lower rounds and put myself in a better position to win,’ said the 23-year-old player.
A high-level Pro-Am as a prelude to the professional competition
Prior to the exciting competition that will take place over the next few days, both players and amateurs were able to enjoy a magnificent Pro-Am day, where there was no shortage of fun and enjoyment of golf. The team captained by Paz Marfá took the victory thanks to a score of 41 under par.
Relentless work after the floods
The Naturávila Golf course has overcome the damage caused by the heavy rains in March, which forced it to close from 8 March to 4 April, in record time. The most affected areas were the holes located along the right bank of the river, especially 1, 7, 8, 15, 17 and 18, which remained flooded for weeks. During that period, maintenance work was practically impossible due to the saturation of the ground, and it was not until mid-April that a race against time began.
The restoration of the course, described as the most demanding in Naturávila’s history, was made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation and its Green Section, which provided the specialised machinery needed to prepare the fairways and greens in record time. The joint work of the maintenance team and the technical support of the federation has allowed the course to be restored to the best possible condition to host this new edition of the tournament with confidence.
About Naturávila Golf el Fresnillo
Opened in 1999, three kilometres from the walled city of Ávila, the Naturávila sports complex offers a wide range of services. In addition to the 18-hole golf course, there is a shooting range, horse riding, a swimming pool, paddle tennis and tennis courts, a 7-a-side football pitch and a wide range of catering options, including three hotels.
The golf course, located on the “El Vaquerizo” estate, is surrounded by lush trees and has numerous lakes that make the course difficult. With wide fairways and practically flat throughout, the length is one of the obstacles that makes this course a great challenge for all types of players.
