Ana Peláez from Málaga was crowned champion of the Santander Spanish Women’s Professional Championship 2025 for the second consecutive year after completing a final round of one under par and closing the tournament with a total of -6 on the demanding Heathland course at La Hacienda Links Golf Resort. The defending champion, who was crowned in 2024 at the Real Club de Golf de Guadalmina, managed to maintain her eight-stroke lead going into the third and final round to lift the trophy once again with absolute authority.
Peláez started the day with a serious expression and faithful to a conservative approach, signing three consecutive pars from 1 to 3 before facing the first obstacle of the day: a bogey on the 4th after a mistake off the tee. Then came two more pars on the 5th and 6th and another bogey on the 7th, an uphill par 4 where she left herself with a difficult second shot. With that +2 for the day, the tension appeared for the first time, even more so when he saw that one of the big stars of the day, María Parra from Cadiz, was coming on strong behind him, stringing together a simply spectacular first round, -5 for the day with two eagles included. Even so, Peláez held her own until she finished the first nine holes with pars on the 8th and 9th to remain at -3 overall.
In the second round, aware of the difficulty of the initial stretch of the Heathland course and the importance of not giving away strokes, the Malaga native returned to her plan: secure tee shots, place the ball well on the fairway and avoid unnecessary risks. However, the 13th hole brought a new bogey that momentarily fuelled doubts. It was then that the reigning champion brought out her best. On the par-3 14th, she scored her first birdie of the day, a stroke of authority that gave way to a devastating final sequence. She also birdied the 15th, which put her at +1 for the day and -4 overall, and two more on the 17th and 18th holes to close with a card of 71 strokes, extending her lead to seven strokes and confirming her second consecutive national title.
Excited after her victory, Peláez acknowledged: “It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions, to be honest. There were many factors that influenced the round, but I am absolutely proud to say that I am a two-time Spanish champion.‘ Regarding her start to the day, she added: ’I struggled a bit on the first nine, but from the 10th hole onwards, I got back into the groove I felt on the first two days of competition, and from then on, everything was easier.” She also admitted to feeling the pressure: ‘There was a moment when I felt the pressure of not wanting to mess up, of wondering if I would be able to maintain my lead, but in the second round everything clicked into place and I can proudly say, after such a difficult year, that I am Spanish champion again.’ Looking ahead, she said: ‘It gives me a lot of confidence for next week’s Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España presented by Oysho. It’s wonderful to be able to compete at home and feel my people close by is something that cannot be described.’
Second place went to María Parra, who played one of the best rounds of the tournament. Starting at +6 overall, the Cadiz native opened with a par on the 1st before scoring her first eagle on the par-5 2nd. After a bogey on the 3rd, she had an outstanding run with birdies on the 4th and 5th and a second eagle on the 6th, bringing her to even par overall and just four strokes off the lead. Three consecutive pars from the 7th to the 9th allowed her to finish the first nine holes with a real chance of fighting for a title that no one expected. In the second round, she added another birdie on the par-5 10th, although a bogey on the 11th slowed her comeback. Three pars from the 12th to the 14th kept her in contention until a bogey on the 15th put her out of contention for good. She closed her round with two pars and a final birdie on the 18th to sign for a magnificent -5 on the day and finish on +1 overall.
Third place was shared by María Villanueva and Marta Martín, both on +4, while the best amateur in the tournament was Madrid’s Amanda Revuelta, on +5, tied for fifth place with Luna Sobrón, Marta Sanz and Blanca Fernández.
Peláez’s victory brings to a close a historic season on the tenth anniversary of the Santander Golf Tour, a sensational end to a year to remember in Spanish women’s golf.
