Lauren Holmey completes her hat trick of victories on the Santander Golf Tour in La Coruña
- The Dutch player defeats Elena Melich from Arriacense in an exciting final duel in windy conditions at the Real Club de Golf de La Coruña
- Third title of the year for Holmey, following her victories at Empordà Golf and Club de Campo Laukariz
Dutch player Lauren Holmey shone once again and was crowned champion of the Santander Golf Tour La Coruña 2025, securing her third victory of the season after beating Elena Melich from Arriacense in a thrilling final duel. Holmey finished with a total score of one over par in a demanding week at the Real Club de Golf de La Coruña, marked by strong gusts of wind and the difficulty of the greens at La Zapateira.
The victory of the Dutch player, who had already won the Empordà Golf and Club de Campo Laukariz tournaments this season, reinforces her absolute dominance on the circuit. Melich, meanwhile, finished in an outstanding second place with +2, while Laura Beveridge completed the podium with +3.
The day started early with the resumption of the remaining holes from the first round, which could not be completed on Tuesday due to fog. Once underway, the tournament maintained an intense pace on a Wednesday with challenging weather conditions, where the wind played a key role in the outcome of the tournament.
Holmey, who started with +1 overall after completing the five holes remaining from the first round, began the final round two strokes behind leaders Melich and Hulda Gestsdottir. An early bogey on the second hole seemed to complicate her chances, but the Dutch player kept her cool, stringing together three consecutive pars before scoring her first birdie on the par-5 sixth. Although she dropped another stroke with a bogey on the seventh, she regained ground with another birdie on the eighth, putting her just one stroke behind Melich, who was playing even par.
The second round was a display of control and composure by Holmey. A par on the 10th and two commendable birdies on the 11th and 13th put her in the lead, just as Melich stumbled with a double bogey on the 14th, the hole that would ultimately decide the title. From there, the Dutch player played intelligently, accumulating four consecutive pars from the 14th to the 17th to protect her lead. A mistake on her second shot on the 18th, which hit a tree, cost her a final bogey, but her margin was enough: victory by one stroke and a new trophy for her brilliant season.
At the end of the day, she commented: “It was a tough day, with wind on every shot, but I tried to keep a cool head and play patiently. I’m very happy with this third victory and with the way I’ve competed this week; it’s a dream to win here.”
For her part, Elena Melich put in a brave performance and came very close to securing her first victory as a professional. The Arriacense, who started as co-leader at -1, began the day steadily, achieving a birdie on the 2nd hole and maintaining her composure despite a triple bogey on the 5th, which momentarily relegated her from first place. Far from giving up, the Castilian-La Mancha player reacted with birdies on the 8th and 10th, putting herself back on par with the course and bringing the excitement back to the tournament. However, the shot on the 14th was decisive: the double bogey on the iconic par 3 at the Real Club de Golf de La Coruña definitively took her out of the fight for the title.
Scotland’s Laura Beveridge completed the podium in third place (+3) after a very solid final round, while Nina Pegova, Alejandra Llaneza, María Villanueva, and Hulda Gestsdottir shared fourth place with +5.
The Santander Golf Tour continues next week at Club Zaudín Golf (Seville), where the Doubles Championship, one of the most special events on the calendar, will be held on November 5-6, bringing together many of the season’s top players.
