Jae Bowers wins an exciting playoff and conquers the Santander Golf Tour Zaragoza 2025
- The Englishwoman wins her second professional title after beating Harang Lee from Cantabria in a thrilling final at the Real Club de Golf La Peñaza
- The young amateur from Aragon, Constanza Beamonte, dazzles on her second day and finishes in ninth position
It was a day of excitement and spectacle at the Real Club de Golf La Peñaza, where the wind gave way to a memorable day of golf. England’s Jae Bowers was crowned champion of the Santander Golf Tour Zaragoza 2025 after beating Harang Lee in a thrilling playoff that put the perfect finishing touch to two intense days of competition.
Bowers, who started with a total of +3 and four strokes behind the leader, staged a spectacular comeback from the outset. The Englishwoman came out determined and carded a dream first round with five birdies, three of them consecutive between holes 5 and 7. Despite two bogeys on the 4th and 8th, her birdie on the 9th—with a very long putt—put her right back in contention for the title.
On the back nine, Bowers kept up the pace with birdies on the 11th and 12th to move to -2 overall and into the lead. However, on the 18th hole, when she had a chance to finish at -3, her seven-metre birdie putt missed by millimetres and she also missed the par putt, handing in a final card of -1 overall and leaving the door open for a play-off.
The play-off, contested once again on the 18th, did not disappoint. Both players missed their tee shots—Lee into the rough and Bowers into the fairway bunker—but the Englishwoman managed to keep her cool. From an awkward position for her third shot, she left her ball four metres from the flag and sank the decisive putt down the middle of the hole, sealing victory after the Cantabrian missed her putt for par.
With this win, Jae Bowers claims her second professional title and her first since 2021, confirming her return to the path of success.
Battle for the podium
Mexico’s Alejandra Llaneza — winner of this year’s Santander Golf Tour LETAS Ávila and Olympian at Rio 2016 — put in a great performance to finish tied for third at +1. Her eagle from the fairway on the 10th hole, the only one of the day, was followed by a birdie on the 11th that kept her in contention until the end.
She was joined in third place by Amaia Latorre from Álava, one of the fittest players on the circuit and winner of this year’s Santander Golf Tour Valencia and the Ahlsell Trophy by Destination Jönköping (LET Access Series). Latorre alternated between great moments — such as her birdies on holes 4, 7, 16 and 17 — and a difficult stretch on holes 13 to 15, but she closed with composure to secure her place on the podium.
Constanza Beamonte, the future and present of Aragonese golf
Among the great stories of the tournament was that of Zaragoza amateur Constanza Beamonte, a 14-year-old player and member of La Peñaza, who once again made her mark. After signing +7 on her debut, she completed a spectacular second round with par for the course, adding five birdies on the back nine to finish her first professional tournament in ninth position.
Absolute champion of Aragon under-18 and runner-up in the Spanish Junior Championship, Beamonte once again demonstrated her enormous talent and character by competing head-to-head with the best professionals.
Upcoming events on the circuit
The Santander Golf Tour continues with the next event at the Real Club de Golf de La Coruña on 29 and 30 October, before the Santander Golf Tour Seville Doubles Championship (Club Zaudín, 5 to 6 November) and the Santander Spanish Women’s Professional Championship, which will close the season at La Hacienda Links Golf Resort from 19 to 21 November.
With two scoring tournaments still to be played, the circuit ranking remains completely open in an exciting battle for the lead and for a ticket to the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España presented by Oysho, which will be held from 27 to 30 November at the Real Guadalhorce Club de Golf.
