  • Abama Golf once again confirms its excellence as a venue, on an island that will also be at the forefront of European golf in June with the Tenerife Women’s Open

The second edition of the Tenerife Golf Cup concluded on Wednesday, leaving a lasting impression on all participants. In a privileged natural setting, Tenerife once again showcased itself to the world as a destination that combines sport, luxury, sustainability, and local culture. Over three intense days, guests experienced much more than just a competition: they enjoyed a comprehensive experience that reinforces the island’s position as a benchmark in golf tourism.

The tournament pitted the Canary Islands team, captained by Álvaro Hernández Cabezuela, against the Peninsula team, led by Ignacio Garrido, in a format inspired by the Ryder Cup. After the first official day, played on Tuesday in fourball format, the Canary Islands team took the lead. On the final day, held on Wednesday, 16 individual match-play duels were played, with the home team managing to maintain its lead and being crowned champions of this edition.

The Canary Islands team’s victory was celebrated with enthusiasm, but the real triumph was in the atmosphere both on and off the course: respect, camaraderie, and a shared love of golf that was evident in every gesture and conversation. The Tenerife Golf Cup was once again an example of how sport can generate community and emotions, while promoting unique destinations such as Tenerife.

The program of activities kicked off on Monday at Golf Los Palos, which in 2024 completely modernized its practice area and inaugurated the Top Range Tenerife with Trackman technology. There, the players took part in a fun session led by the ever-charismatic Doctor Swing (Jae Hoon Chang), who combined teaching, entertainment, and lots of laughter. In the afternoon, a round was played on the course’s 9-hole layout, where former basketball player Sergio Rodríguez stood out with his victory in the par 3 contest.

The day ended at Finca La Calabacera, a benchmark for ecological agrotourism in the Canary Islands. Surrounded by native vegetation, banana plantations, and sustainable crops, guests enjoyed a dinner where local cuisine took center stage. Live music and a relaxed atmosphere completed a perfect evening.

Tuesday was marked by intense competition at Abama Golf, considered one of the most spectacular courses in Europe, and by a magical evening at the Melvin Restaurant, within the Abama Resort Tenerife itself. There, the evening included live music by Carol and Dan and a brilliant performance by comedian Dani de la Cámara, who had everyone on their feet laughing.

Throughout the week, players stayed at Las Terrazas de Abama Suites, a complex that represents the highest standard of comfort, privacy, and unparalleled views of the Atlantic Ocean. The resort’s hospitality, its culinary offerings, and its attention to detail were constantly praised by attendees.

The teams were made up of well-known figures from the worlds of sport, media, and entertainment. The Peninsula team included Sandra and Patricia Martín Haro, Miguel Ángel Ferrer (Mista), Pepín Liria, Hugo Costa, Guillermo Salmerón, Roberto López Ufarte, Toñín Llorente, Sinacio Salmerón, Jordi Villacampa, Isidoro San José, Fernando Molina, Jorge Armenteros, Chacho Rodríguez, and Liz Emiliano. The Canarias team, meanwhile, consisted of Carlos Beautell, Mercedes Beautell, Eugenio Vonk, José Royo, Tony Genovart, Camil Azzam, Francisco Sánchez, Alejandro Nagy, Chicho Morales, Alex Grau, Laura Mojarro, Roberto Gimeno, José Fernando Cabrera, Maca Rodríguez, and Laly García Negrín.

The Tenerife Golf Cup 2025 has not only met its objectives: it has exceeded them. It has been a celebration of golf, the landscape, the people, and Tenerife’s ability to offer memorable experiences. And the island’s golf calendar doesn’t stop there: from June 5 to 8, Tenerife and Abama Golf will once again welcome the continent’s top names to the Tenerife Women’s Open, a European women’s professional circuit event that will once again put the island at the center of European golf.

With events like these, Tenerife is not only establishing itself as a leading tourist destination, but also positioning itself as an international golf hub, where every tournament becomes a unique experience.

This second edition of the Tenerife Golf Cup was organized by Deporte&Business and sponsored by Turismo de Tenerife, Abama Golf, Las Terrazas de Abama Suites 5*, and PING.
