The Tenerife Golf Cup has kicked off in style, showcasing everything it has to offer: golf, gastronomy, sustainability, and lifestyle in the privileged setting of Tenerife, the epicenter of sports and luxury tourism in Europe. The event has brought together a distinguished group of participants from the worlds of professional sports, media, and entertainment, divided into two teams that embody the competitive spirit of this edition.

Under the captaincy of Ignacio Garrido, the Peninsula team includes illustrious names such as Sandra Martín Haro, Patricia Martín Haro, Miguel Ángel Ferrer “Mista,” Pepín Liria, Hugo Costa, Guillermo Salmerón, Roberto López Ufarte, Toñín Llorente, Sinacio Salmerón, Jordi Villacampa, Isidoro San José, Fernando Molina, Jorge Armenteros, Chacho Rodríguez, and Liz Emiliano. Opposite them, the Canarias team, led by Álvaro Hernández Cabezuela, is made up of an equally diverse and competitive group, including Carlos Beautell, Eugenio Vonk, José Royo, Tony Genovart, Camil Azzam, Francisco Sánchez, Alejandro Nagy, Mercedes Beautell, Chicho Morales, Alex Grau, Laura Mojarro, Roberto Gimeno, José Fernando Cabrera, Maca Rodríguez, and Laly García Negrín.

The opening day kicked off at noon at Golf Los Palos, a course that underwent a complete renovation in 2024 and now boasts one of the most advanced driving ranges in Spain thanks to the incorporation of the Top Range Tenerife system, equipped with Trackman technology. There, the players took part in a program of games and challenges organized by the charismatic Jae Hoon Chang, better known as Doctor Swing, who turned the course into a scene of laughter, talent, and memorable moments.

In the afternoon, the friendly competition moved to the course’s 9-hole layout, where participants enjoyed a relaxed atmosphere and high level of sportsmanship. Former basketball player Sergio Rodríguez shone brightly, taking victory in the day’s standings and proving that his competitive spirit transcends the hardwood courts. As evening fell, the guests moved to the heart of the event, the Abama Resort Tenerife, where they are staying in the exclusive enclave of Las Terrazas de Abama, surrounded by spectacular views of the Atlantic and the golf course. After a short break, the day ended with an unforgettable evening at Finca La Calabacera, a 150,000-square-meter organic farm located among banana plantations, vineyards, subtropical fruits, and sustainable crops. With more than 15 years of experience in organic farming and the prestigious European Organic Production label since 2006, this enclave has established itself as a benchmark in responsible agrotourism, where visitors rediscover the value of the land through their senses.

There, guests enjoyed a dinner under the stars, accompanied by live music, in an atmosphere that combined tradition, nature, and culinary excellence. It was also the perfect setting to reveal the pairings for the first official day of the Tenerife Golf Cup

and to present Sergio Rodríguez with the prize for winning the par 3 competition. His reward: a two-night stay at the Gran Hotel Taoro, which will reopen its doors in July 2025 as a luxury icon in the north of the island. The hotel, with more than 130 years of history, has been completely renovated to offer a sophisticated experience, combining heritage and cutting-edge design, and a gastronomic offering created by renowned chefs.

Today, the first official day of the tournament was played, using the fourball or better ball format, with eight high-level matches on the demanding and spectacular Abama Golf course, one of the great references in European golf. The quality of the course, the impeccable condition of the grounds, and the privileged setting have made the day a true sporting festival, in which Tenerife has once again shone as a first-class golf destination.

At the end of the day, the players enjoyed the best of Abama Resort’s haute cuisine in an atmosphere of camaraderie and mutual admiration. Tonight, Melvin Restaurant will host another special evening with live music by Caro and Dan Rain, a monologue by Dani de la Cámara, and the presentation of the results and pairings for tomorrow’s decisive day, in individual match-play format.

With everything still to be decided, the Tenerife Golf Cup heads into its final day having already fulfilled its great mission: to show the world that the island of Tenerife is not only a holiday paradise, but also an incomparable destination for golf, gastronomy, relaxation, and exclusive experiences.

This second edition of the Tenerife Golf Cup is organized by Deporte&Business and sponsored by Turismo de Tenerife, Abama Golf, Las Terrazas de Abama Suites 5*, and PING.
