The second edition of the Tenerife Golf Cup is just around the corner. Like last year, it will be supported by Turismo de Tenerife and organized by Deporte&Business, and will be held at one of the most spectacular resorts on the island: Abama Golf, one of the best golf courses in our country; and Las Terrazas de Abama, a hotel complex unlike any other in the world.

This year, the competition will be held in a Ryder Cup format with two high-level teams. One will be made up of prominent members of the tourism, golf, and communications sectors in Tenerife, and the other will feature popular figures from the communications, golf, and entertainment sectors in Spain. This year, the competition will be in Ryder Cup format with two high-level teams. One team will be made up of prominent members of the tourism, golf, and communications sectors in Tenerife, and the other will feature popular figures from the worlds of communications, sports, entertainment, and social life in our country. They will face off in this format from April 28th to 30th.

Abama Hotels is a hotel complex comprising two 5-star hotels in southern Tenerife: Las Terrazas de Abama Suites and Los Jardines de Abama Suites. Both are located in an exclusive and privileged corner of the southwestern coast, away from the crowds, at the foot of the Teide volcano and facing the Atlantic Ocean. Their modern suites and private luxury villas in Tenerife rise up facing the sea, surrounded by lush subtropical gardens and palm trees, as well as one of the best 18-hole golf courses in Europe, designed by Dave Thomas, which has recently had its 18 greens renovated, making it a course unlike any other in Spain. This season, it will also host one of the most important events on the Ladies European Tour international calendar, the Tenerife Women’s Open, which will feature the best players from the Old Continent.

This spectacular complex also boasts five heated outdoor freshwater infinity pools, seven professional tennis courts, four paddle tennis courts, a Kids Camp, and the exquisite Melvin restaurant in Tenerife, bearing the seal of Martín Berasategui (a Spanish chef whose restaurants have 12 Michelin stars).

This year’s list of participating players is spectacular. Representing mainland Spain will be two-time DP World Tour winner Ignacio Garrido, winner of the German Open and the Volvo PGA Championship at Wentworth, as well as a member of the European Ryder Cup team that won at Valderrama under the captaincy of Severiano Ballesteros.

Opposite him will be another captain of enormous quality, Álvaro Hernández Cabezuela, one of the players with the greatest potential at present, especially after winning two Alps Tour events this season and currently ranked second in the Order of Merit. The Tenerife native will be a worthy rival to Nacho Garrido who, like his colleague, will try to achieve victory for the islanders in this second edition of the tournament.

In this edition, the peninsula team will be made up of former soccer players Roberto López Ufarte, Isidoro San José, and Miguel Ángel Ferrer Mixta, all three international players for Real Sociedad, Real Madrid, and Valencia, respectively; former basketball players Sergio Rodríguez, world champion and NBA player, Toñin Llorente, from Real Madrid, and Jordi Villacampa from Joventut de Badalona; bullfighters Enrique Ponce and Pepin Liria; influencers Liz Emiliano and Sandra Martín; actor, producer, and screenwriter Sinacio; and journalists Hugo Costa (El Mundo, Elperiodigolf.com, Max, Discovery Channel Latin America, and Radio Marca), Guillermo Salmerón (Radio Marca, Elperiodigolf.com, Max, and Eurosport); Fernando Molina (Open Golf); and Jorge Armenteros (Cadena Cope and Ryder Cope).

The Canarian team will be fighting for victory with Eugenio Vork, José Royo, Tony Genovat, Saad Azzan, Francisco Sánchez, Alejandro Nagy (Golf Industria), Eduardo Tavio, Mercedes Beautell, Chicho Morales (par 4 Media), Michael Bharwani, Alex Grau, Laura Mojarro, Roberto Gimeno, Maca Rodríguez, and Fernando Bustamante.

All of them will be at Abama Golf and Las Terrazas de Abama from Monday, April 28 to Wednesday, April 30 to compete in two spectacular days of Ryder Cup-style play. On Tuesday, they will play best ball pairs, and on Wednesday, they will play singles, which will determine the winner of the competition on that third day of competition.

On Tuesday at Abama Golf, after the first day of competition, a gala dinner will be held at Finca La Calabacera with a stellar performance by comedian Dani de la Cámara and the musical duo Carolina and Dan, who will entertain guests during an evening in which the individual matchups for Wednesday will be announced and the two captains of the two teams, Ignacio Garrido and Álvaro Hernández Cabezuela, will play an exciting match.

Everything is ready for a spectacular second edition in a region where golf is one of the best attractions for high-end tourism. Tenerife currently has nine courses where you can enjoy the best golf, including Abama Golf Resort, Golf Costa Adeje, Buenavista Golf, Golf Las Américas, and Golf del Sur.

Abama Golf is a top-notch resort: the course is considered one of the best in Tenerife and even in Spain, with Las Terrazas de Abama, its restaurants, five pools, and spectacular sea views from anywhere in the resort.

In addition, temperatures in Tenerife exceed 68°F (20°C) almost every month of the year, so good weather is guaranteed at any time. July to September are the warmest months, with temperatures above 81°F (27°C). From May to September, there is almost no rain. November to January are the months with the highest probability of rain. This coincides with Christmas at the end of December, a time chosen by many families to enjoy the end of the year. The ideal villages, good infrastructure, superb golf courses designed by great architects and very well maintained, as well as a cuisine influenced by the best chefs in the country, make Tenerife a great destination in Spain.

Definitely one of the best destinations in Europe.

This second edition of the Tenerife Golf Cup is being held by Deporte&Business, the company organizing the 2023 Solheim Cup, and is sponsored by Turismo de Tenerife, Abama Golf, Las Terrazas de Abama Suites 5*, and PING.
