On 10 March, with spring just around the corner, the tenth edition of the Santander Golf Tour was presented. This professional women’s golf circuit will consist of ten events held throughout the year in various parts of Spain.
The presentation, at the headquarters of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, was attended by Juan Guerrero-Burgos, president of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation; Víctor Allende, director of Santander Private Banking Spain; Felipe Martín Martín, director of Media, Sponsorships and Events at Santander Spain; Alicia Garrido Villacieros, executive director of the Santander Golf Tour; and María Herráez, professional player and winner of the Santander 2024 ranking.
Juan Guerrero-Burgos, president of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, highlighted the continuity of this well-established circuit and the role of women’s golf in Spain: “The Spanish Federation is proud to have this circuit. Women’s golf is essential to our organisation; it is a fundamental pillar of our sport, and the goal is to reach a 30% share of federation members so that women’s sport occupies the place it deserves. We have some wonderful players and this circuit, which complements other circuits such as the LETAS and the Ladies European Tour, is crucial for the development of professionals.”
Víctor Allende, director of Santander Private Banking Spain, recalled the bank’s commitment to women’s sport, the experience of its customers and its support for charitable causes: “Ten years on, we can see that the purpose behind the tour has clearly paid off. On the one hand, we can proudly say that we have helped many players to start their professional careers and thrive in them, with some international success stories. In addition, this circuit gives many of our customers the opportunity to enjoy pro-am days which, thanks to the willingness and professionalism of the players, are always a success for the bank. Finally, we are fortunate this year to be able to promote an important social project with the Prodis Foundation. These three aspects make this sponsorship fundamental for us, and we hope that the next ten years will be as fruitful as those we have experienced so far.
Felipe Martín Martín, Director of Media, Sponsorship and Events at Santander Spain, expressed his gratitude to “the Spanish Golf Federation for its great work and to its new president, Juan Guerrero-Burgos. As for the circuit, ten years ago we said that it would last as long as the players wanted it to, and with the success of the customer events thanks to them, with the team spirit that is created, we are sure that this collaboration will continue for many years to come.” He also wanted to highlight what the circuit means for the players: ‘The aim has always been to show our utmost support for all the players and to be able to say with pride that, thanks to this circuit, they have been able to have an easier path from amateur to achieving their card on the European circuits.’
Alicia Garrido, executive director of the Santander Golf Tour, thanked all the sponsors and collaborators for their support, as well as the media for their coverage of the tour. Alicia outlined some of the new features of the season, which sees the Prodis Foundation (a non-profit organisation that provides comprehensive support and training for people with intellectual disabilities to enable their full inclusion in society and the world of work) join as a beneficiary of the charitable activities carried out at all tournaments. She also highlighted the quality of the different venues on the circuit, which she described as “the best courses in Spain”. In addition, she emphasised that ‘the circuit has been on a clear upward trend in recent years. We have an average of 40% more players than five years ago, with 75 tournaments played to date and 28 different venues that have made this circuit unique in Europe”.
And finally, María Herráez, winner of the Santander Golf Tour ranking in 2024, said: “The Santander Golf Tour is a great platform for our professional development. Over the years, it has become a very important tour both nationally and internationally, where players can compete at a high level and prepare for the most demanding tournaments. That’s why I think it’s important to emphasise that none of this would be possible if we didn’t have such an important and significant circuit as the Santander Golf Tour, which always makes us all feel at home.”
The Santander Golf Tour returns after an excellent season in 2024 and begins its tenth season on 20 and 21 March with the Birdie Challenge format at Empordà Golf, Forest (Girona). The circuit will continue its tour at the El Saler Golf Club (Valencia) on 9 and 10 April, and will continue its journey through Spain at the Real Golf de Pedreña (Cantabria), with the now traditional Match-Play tournament on 14, 15 and 16 May.
In 2025, there will once again be a tournament co-sanctioned with the LET Access Series, the satellite circuit of the Ladies European Tour, which will be held for the second consecutive year at Naturávila Golf (Ávila) from 29 to 31 May. Before the summer break, the circuit will return to Golf Santander (Madrid) on 24th and 25th June to welcome some of the biggest stars in the sport to the now customary Pro-Am Legends.
October will bring a total of three events, all in individual format. The first will be in Vizcaya on 8th and 9th October. Next, the Real Club de Golf La Peñaza (Zaragoza) will host the following event on 23rd and 24th October, while the Real Club de Golf de La Coruña (A Coruña) will close the month with its tournament on 29th and 30th October.
In November, the final stretch of the season will begin at Club Zaudín Golf (Seville), where the penultimate event of the circuit will be held in doubles format on 5th and 6th November. Finally, from 21 to 23 November, the Costa del Sol will host the eagerly awaited Santander Spanish Women’s Professional Championship, which will bring an intense year of competition to a close.
The Santander Golf Tour is Banco Santander’s firm commitment to professional women’s golf, and it will celebrate its tenth season in 2025. With ten tournaments throughout Spain, some of which are part of higher circuits such as the LETAS, it is supported by Santander Private Banking, Carmignac, and Santander Seguros as sponsors. Homenaje, Wilson Golf, Toa Shoes, and Estrella Damm are the preferred suppliers. The Royal Spanish Golf Federation, together with the other regional federations, provide the rest of the essential support for this tour.
